Young Firefighter Dies in Tragic Truck Crash
VANDERBURGH CO., IN – A young firefighter has died following an accident involving an overturned fire truck Wednesday night.
According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, Jeremy Tighe, an 18-year-old firefighter for McCutchanville Fire Department, was killed after a fire truck overturned around 8:30 p.m. The truck accident occurred across from the landfill and near the Mayse Farm Market on North St. Joe Avenue in Vanderburgh County.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the fire truck on its side in a drainage ditch on the edge of the road. Although the full details of the incident are not yet in order, the sheriff’s office said a preliminary investigation indicates the fire truck left the road and went onto the shoulder. The truck then struck a power line pole.
The driver of the fire truck, 24-year-old Brandon Cason of Evansville, was taken to Deaconess Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and has since been released. Tighe was the passenger in the fire truck.
Authorities believe Cason and Tighe were in the middle of training when the accident occurred. An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway.
