Truck Driver Faces Charges After Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Accident
CALGARY – The driver of a pickup truck is now facing charges after causing an accident and leaving the scene of the incident.
Brendan Holubowich, 21, from Grande Prairie, Alta is facing DUI charges after causing a highway collision that killed four teens on Saturday.
Holubowich was driving a pickup truck that crashed into a car transporting five teens on Highway 668 near Highway 40.
The crash, which happened just after midnight on Saturday, resulted in the deaths of 16-year-olds Matthew Deller and Vincent Stover as well as 15-year-olds Walter Borden-Wilkens and Tanner Hildebrand.
The surviving teen, fifteen-year old Zak Judd, who was critically injured in the collision, is in stable condition at an Edmonton-area hospital.
Holubowich now faces 11 charges in relation to the crash, including four counts of impaired driving causing death.
He is scheduled for his first court appearance on Oct. 31.
Authorities are not clear on where the teen boys were going or where they were coming from the night of the incident. The young victims were all students at Grande Prairie Composite High School and played for the Warriors football team.
Officials explained that Holubowich fled the scene of the crash but was arrested a short time later.
