Truck Driver Charged with DUI Following Roadway Crash
Newark, New Jersey – A 62-year-old Maryland man was charged with DUI after crashing his pickup truck.
The truck accident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Edward F. Lewis, of Elkton, was driving his pickup truck on the wrong side of Pencader Drive in Newark, when the truck flipped over and crashed into two trees and a television box before coming to a stop.
Lewis was trapped inside the truck for about 20 minutes before emergency responders arrived at the scene and freed him. Lewis was then taken to Christiana Hospital, where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries. He was wearing his seat belt when the crash occurred.
Police have cited Lewis with driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and driving on the wrong side of the road.
