Truck crash causes live wires to fall on school bus

Clay, NY –  New York police have identified a truck driver who was involved in a fatal accident on Monday morning.

The victim was 52-year-old Terry Smith. Police say he was heading north on Henry Clay Boulevard when he lost control of his pick-up truck and went off the road, down a culvert, crashing into a Hampton Estates apartment complex sign and utility pole.

The incident caused live wires from the utility pole to fall on a Liverpool Central School District bus that was also heading north on the way to Donlin Drive Elementary School.

Luckily, no one on the school bus was hurt. Smith was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Authorities believed Smith suffered from a medical condition before the truck accident occurred. Police are waiting for the results of an autopsy to determine exactly what happened.
