Truck accident shuts down major highway for several hours
NEWBURGH, New York – A truck accident on Thursday left the town of Newburgh in a standstill for roughly 6 ½ hours on Thursday.
Traffic was tied up for hours after a tractor-trailer truck crashed into a pickup truck on I-84 in Newburgh. The driver of the pickup truck was identified as James Mann, 55. He incurred serious injuries from the truck accident and was transported to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital where he died of his wounds.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Marion Williams, 50, of Leetonia, Ohio, was heading eastbound on I-84 at around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday morning when he crossed into the center median into the westbound lanes.
Williams’ vehicle hit Mann’s, causing it to go down an embankment. The tractor-trailer was stopped on the westbound lanes of the highway, leading it to be closed down for almost 7 hours.
In addition to Mann, two others were injured as a result of the incident and were transported to the hospital.
Investigators are still looking into what caused the truck accident.
