The incident occurred on Sunday night in the northbound lane of Interstate 59. A transfer truck, van and car collided with each other at around 10:30 p.m.
Officials explained that a woman driving northbound on Interstate 59 began experiencing some car trouble on the side of the highway. The driver of the van pulled over to help her. The tractor trailer, which was close behind, could not stop the vehicle fast enough and hit the woman’s car. The truck then caught on fire.
According to authorities, all three drivers had to be transported to nearby hospitals for emergency care.
The driver of the van suffered head injuries while the drivers of the truck and car incurred neck injuries and were complaining of back pain.
Following the incident, Interstate 59 was shut down near the Tallapoosa exit and traffic was rerouted.
