Fatal truck accident takes life of Pennsylvania man
PENNSYLVANIA – A 32-year-old Pennsylvania man was killed in a truck accident earlier today and another man was injured.
The incident involved three trucks crashing into each other and occurred on I-495 in Claymont and left the northbound lanes closed for over four hours. The man that was killed was identified as Edwin W. Trill Jr., of Ridley Park.
The accident happened around 3:30 a.m. as Trill was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Express box truck north on I-495. The front of Trill’s truck struck the back of a stopped 1995 Peterbilt tanker tractor trailer, which was being driven by Alvin Flaud, 59, of Honey Brook, Pa. Flaud had stopped due to an unrelated ahead.
Once the box truck and tractor trailer collided, the rig then hit the vehicle in front of him, a 1999 Kenworth flatbed tractor trailer that was hauling lumber. It was being driven by Bryan Colon, 68, of Washington, N.C.
Trill was trapped in his vehicle for 30 minutes and was then flown to Christiana Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Flaud was taken by ambulance to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. Colon was not injured. Trill was the only victim not wearing a seat belt.
Truck accidents like this one happen all the time. Most truck accidents actually lead to severe injuries and even fatalities. Drivers of commercial trucks like tractor trailers, big rigs, 18-wheelers and other large trucks tend to drive long hours and often grow tired as they drive to their locations. They often fall asleep at the wheel or speed in order to get to their destinations on time, leading them to crash with other vehicles on the road. There are also a number of instances in which drivers operate their vehicles while intoxicated, placing innocent lives at even greater risk.
Unfortunately, not much is done to keep drivers – not their companies – in check. However, as a truck accident victim, you do have rights and you should fight to protect them. Anyone who has been hurt or who has lost the life of a loved one in a truck-related crash may be eligible to receive compensation for their pain and suffering. Poor man!
PA is a dangerous driving state, my uncle was killed in a car accident there involving a snow plow truck- narrow, snowy roads… Some people call PA Philadelphia and Pittsburg with Alabama in the middle, which seems to be relatively accurate (not that that has anything to do with this truck accident, but just thought it’d be helpful to point that out)
