GLENDALE, Arizona – An accident between a dump truck and a school bus in Glendale has left several people injured, including young children. The accident occurred on Monday morning just before 7 a.m. near Missouri and 57th Avenues. Authorities report that a dump truck rear ended a school bus as students were getting on the bus. The school bus belongs to Phoenix charter school Bennett Academy.
According to officials, the school bus had already picked up two students and was in the process of picking up two others when the dump truck crashed into it from behind. Two students, sisters Valerie and Jacqueline Hernandez, were getting on the bus when the truck accident took place and suffered non-life threatening injuries. They were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The two other students that were already on the bus, a 5-year-old boy and a girl, as well as the bus driver, were also transported to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The dump truck driver did not require hospital treatment. An Air15 video revealed that the school bus actually crashed into a power pole after it had been struck by the dump truck. One of the victims, a girl, was airlifted from the scene of the accident. Glendale police explained the truck driver faces a civil citation for failure to control a vehicle to avoid a collision. Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have contributed to the incident.
Truck accidents like this one occur on an everyday basis. Unfortunately, most end with far worse outcomes. Usually, it is the driver of the truck that is responsible for the incident. Truck drivers usually have to meet strict deadlines and speed in order to arrive at their destinations on time, fall asleep at the wheel after long hours of driving, or even drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Other times, the accident is the result of a mechanical failure on the truck that the truck company didn’t properly inspect for.
Regardless of the particular cause behind the incident, it is important for truck accident victims to know that help is available for them. They may be entitled to a large compensation for their pain and suffering.
