Dump truck and SUV collision leads to one fatality

Thonotosassa, Florida – A crash involving an SUV and dump truck on US 301 Thursday morning has led to the death of one victim.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Ford Expedition was heading south on US 301, just north of Franklin Road, when it veered into the northbound lane.

The Expedition crossed into the path of an oncoming dump truck, and the two vehicles collided head-on.

The Expedition became engulfed in flames, and the driver died at the scene of the accident. The driver of the dump truck sustained minor injuries and was not transported to a hospital.

The identity of the victim has yet to be released. Authorities do not yet know what caused the driver to veer into the northbound lane.
