Driver killed after truck rolls over in highway

A Whitehall truck driver was killed on Monday morning after crashing his tractor-trailer at Routes 924 and 339 in East Union Township.
Humberto Antonio Mendieta died following a truck accident that occurred just before 9 a.m. Monday morning. According to authorities, he was heading to Girardville from Phillipsburg, NJ to deliver concrete water pipes to a construction site.
Mendieta allegedly lost control of the truck and it went off the road, flipping over. The vehicle came to a stop on its side in front of the Brandonville Fire Company.
Brandonville firefighters rushed to the scene followed by rescuers from Mahanoy City’s West End Rescue Squad. Additional rescue units were also called in.
Mendieta was trapped inside the truck for over two and a half hours and was pronounced dead at the scene.
