Authorities continue to investigate fatal truck crash in Jackman
JACKMAN, Maine – An investigation into a fatal truck accident continues in Jackman, Maine.
As of yet, no charges have been filed against the Canadian driver who fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his tractor-trailer against a house on U.S. Route 201.
The truck, which was carrying a load of logs, crashed against the home, killing a 5-year-old boy that was asleep on a couch.
According to Somerset County District Attorney Everett Fowle, the incident remains under investigation.
The young victim was Liam Mahaney, who was killed early Tuesday morning when the tractor-trailer spilled the load of logs into his home, causing the second floor of the house to collapse.
The driver, Christian Cloutier, 57, of Quebec, told police that he fell asleep at the wheel and hit two utility poles before the truck flipped onto its side and crashed against the house that was being rented by Gary and Christine Mahaney and another family.
Cloutier was transported to Jackman Health Center with injuries and was later transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center. He is currently listed in fair condition.
The other five people who were in the house at the time of the accident were taken to the Jackman Health Center for treatment. Four of the five have already been released.
The 2011 Peterbilt truck and trailer, which is owned by D.A.N. Express of Quebec, was severely damaged and has been impounded for further inspection.
