A tow truck accident leaves two people dead in east Winnipeg

WINNIPEG, Manitoba – Two people died following a tragic tow truck crash in Winnipeg.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. Sunday morning. A tow truck traveling east on Dugald Road near Plessis Road lost control and crashed into a tree then burst into flames. Two people were left trapped inside the truck.

“In that short period of time from when they did hear the sounds of a collision to when they got there that the vehicle would have been fully engulfed in flames at that time,” said Const. Natalie Aitken, with the Winnipeg Police Service. “Officers were not able to approach the vehicle.”

Witnesses say the area is very prone to accidents. Just two days prior to the truck accident, a man was hospitalized after crashing just a short distance from the latest accident site. Another man was killed a month ago after his car was hit head on by another driver who was allegedly texting on his phone.
Investigators are still unsure what caused this crash. According to witnesses, the truck was speeding.
